Give It Up!

Ever wonder what it’s like to live with a food allergy? Pick a common allergen (dairy, egg, peanut, gluten, soy, etc.) and try to live without it for a day or two. It will surprise you to know all that you have to give up because of even one allergen. There is a GREAT campaign going on right now through Food Allergy Initiative in order to raise more awareness of food allergies and to encourage our state and federal government to increase funding to find a cure! Go here to read more about how you can contact your state representatives {very easily} and how you could possibly win an Apple iPad! Give It Up is the name of the campaign and FAI is asking you to give up one of your favorite foods for a day to raise food allergy awareness. Join FAI on Facebook here and let all of your friends know about this great cause! If you do have a food allergy, you will definitely want to check out FAI’s website here for tons of resources and info on each of the major allergens. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this site before now!!

My biggest concern regarding my child’s allergies at this point is Kindergarten. I’m reading and researching things I can do to ensure she has a safe experience in Kindergarten, especially where food is concerned. It is a huge burden on my mind and as her parent I MUST be prepared and have a plan to keep her safe. If you have any suggestions on how to make K5 a safe and reaction-free year for her, please leave me a comment. I’m open to all suggestions on this topic. I’ll be sharing my findings on this topic {and others} as I come across them.
